Today we drove the "Golden Circle" of Iceland. First we checked out Thingvellir National Park which is famous both for holding the earliest parliament in the world in 900 AD and for the fact that Iceland declared its independence at the site in 1944. It is also the location of a slowly expanding crack between the American and European tectonic plates which eventually will split Iceland in two (in a very long time!) Kari and Colin are standing in front of the "law rock".
Next stop was Geysir where we watched the water erupt every 4 minutes. This is the birthplace of the name "geyser".
The third stop was at Gullfoss. Unfortunately it was pouring rain but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying the spectacular waterfalls! (2nd largest in Iceland)
We have already found a favourite bakery so made a pit stop on the way home.
Tonight the sun came out as we watched a soccer match at Grafarvogslaug stadium between two of the top Icelandic football clubs - FH and Fjolnir.
